Spring Mountains are the dominant chain of mountains West of Las Vegas. These mountains include State Parks, Red Rock National Park and National Recreation Areas. The Spring Mountains are the highest peaks in the Las Vegas Area and during the winters snow covers many of the mountains. The snows act as makeup that enhances the mountains' beauty. This desert even has a ski area at the top of Lee Canyon Rd. Many residents venture up the mountain for snow play. The cool mountains are also a respite for the hot summer days. Take advantage of the camping sites when you visit. There are a few restaurants on Mount Charleston but otherwise bring lunch. The Spring Mountain Recreational Area is a simple drive north on US 95 for about a half hour. Take the Lee Canyon exit and travel up the Nevada Route 156 to Snow Park.
