Sedona is a tourist Mecca. The city is surrounded by brilliantly red rock formations that makes it an outstanding scenic location. However, Sedona has excellent shopping and upscale resorts and restaurants. It is an excellent location for those who desire a mix of tourism and grandeur. Before exploring the area, stop into one of the Forest Service offices. They will show you where the best places are to visit. and which views are best from the many of well maintained dirt roads that are easily accessed by the family automobile. Traveling to Sedona takes about 5 hours. I recommend that you stay an evening at or near Sedona. Doing so will allow you to experience sunset and sunrise when the views are astounding. To get to the Sedona, travel US 93 south to Kingman AZ. Then take I 40 east to Flagstaff AZ where you will take Interstate 17 south a short distance until you reach Arizona route 89A which will take you to Sedona.
