Mammoth LakesMammoth Lakes is known more as a ski area rather than summer lake escape. However, Mammoth's Lakes are sparkling jewels with mountain scenery to match. You can camp around most of the lakes. There are boats to rent and many fish to catch. The city of Mammoth Lakes has a large complement of hotels and restaurants. Additionally, there are local stores at most of the lakes. To get to Mammoth Lakes drive north from Vegas on US 95 past Beatty. (Beatty is your last chance for gas and food.) Exit US 95 at Nevada Route 266 and continue on 266 until reaching California Route 168. 168 will take you to Big Pine through a volcanic canyon that is an impressive. At Big Pine, you will reach US 395. North on 395 you will pass Bishop and Convict Lake before getting to the Mammoth Lakes road (California Route 203).
