Kolob Branch of Zion National Park

is an arm of Zion National Park that is often missed by those who visit the main part of Zion. Kolob has a 5 mile scenic drive through a narrow canyon to the crest of the mountain. Sheer cliffs with hanging gardens greet the visitor. From the crest, you can see the top of the Colorado Plateau. Most of the scenic areas of Utah and Arizona have been formed by water cutting through this plateau. A wonderful day trip is to tour through the Virgin River Gorge on the way to Snow Canyon in St George and then travel onto Kolob Canyon. There is a small visitor center at Kolob but often rangers are not available. There are no facilities so visitors should bring a lunch or plan on stopping in St George for lunch. To reach Kolob Canyon of Zion National Park, travel north on I15 past St George and take exit 40. The exit sign announces Kolob Canyon. The park begins right after the exit.
