Tour the back country to Devil's Throat
Very few tour this rugged primitive area, east of Lake Mead. The colors explode on the jagged rock formations and the vistas are a must see including views of Lake Mead.
To drive to Devil's Throat take I15 North from the Las Vegas Strip then take
Exit 112 (Nevada Route 170) to Riverside. You will reach a bridge crossing the Virgin River.
Right after the bridge is a road that is unmarked. The road is named the New Gold Butt Rd and
it parallels the river for a few miles. This road is paved all the way to Devil's Throat but
it is rough at times. Any car can drive the road at a moderate speed of 40MPH and
it will take about 45 minutes to reach Devil's Throat. If you have a 4WD or an ATV,
there are many other dirt roads to explore.
Bring a snacks and water because there are no services along the New Gold Butt Rd.
However, a few miles north on either I15 or the Riverside Rd is Mesquite NV where
there are many restaurants and Casinos.
