Death Valley National Park is located at the Nevada / California border. Sounds ominous but Death Valley is a wondrous place that plunges hundreds of feet below sea level at Bad Water. The best time to visit is in the Spring when the flowers bloom. Don't let places like Hell's Gate, Furnace Creek and Devil’s Golf Course scare you off. The place is gorgeous. Be sure to visit Artist’s Drive and Badwater. Take the side trip up to Dante's View off the road to Furnace Creek. Partake the outstanding vista and great scenery. About 20 miles prior to reaching Furnace Creek is a one way dirt road labeled Twenty Mule Team Canyon. The road is well worth the trip. Although this one way road is dirt, it is very well maintained and any auto can drive it. Furnace Creek Area has the park head quarters and two hotels / restaurants: Furnace Creek Inn and Furnace Creek Ranch. Traveling to Death Valley takes about 2 and half hours. Proceed south on I15 and exit at the Nevada State route 160 toward Pahrump. After the center of Pahrump, make a left at the "To Death Valley" sign (Bell Vista Ave). After 25 miles, the road reaches the Amargosa Opera House (California route 127). When there. take a short jog to the right then a left at California route 190 which takes you to the Park.
